I know, when traveling, it's hard to think we have to go back home. Unfortunately, it's a choice we have to make, because our wallet reminds us we have to work again. The image of the routine makes it even harder. On the other hand, we think if we want to be traveling again soon, it's just a few months work. Some of us, don't really think about working in a different country; except if we have a working holiday visa for Australia, but that's a different matter. What I mean is; working in a country we wouldn't think of, because of the language or, because we don't have the proper visa on our passport.
Now, forget about all of this. If you are traveling in Asia, you can go to China and become an English teacher. For a native speaker, it's really easy to find work, and for a non-native speaker, it's easy. Learning English in China is very popular. They have to speak English to find a good job, otherwise it can be difficult for them and, with so many people it makes things even harder. They start learning it from a very young age, sometimes as young as 1 year old. That's the reason there are so many opportunities to teach English.
To find a teaching position, there are few cities you can choose from; Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen. For a native speaker you may be able to teach in university. You will need to be graduated from high school and sometimes they ask for the TEFL (you can get a fake one in Bangkok). If you are not interested working in university, you can always give private lessons, work in a training center or teach in a kindergarten. For a non-native speaker, you can work in a kindergarten or a training center. You can also give a trial in university, but I doubt they will hire you. The salary will be 11000 to 13000 RMB a month for native speaker and 6000 to 9000 RMB a month for non-native speaker. Most of the time the school will provide you with an accommodation.
Some of you won't be keen to work in a big city, in this case, you can go to Yangshuo. Yangshuo is a small Chinese town with a lot of training centers. The spot is really nice, and you can almost feel on holiday while working. The training centers started 5 years ago and now, it's very popular. Chinese come from everywhere to study English in Yangshuo. Most of them are adults, who want to learn English because their boss asked them to or, because they want to find a better job. The salary won't be as high as in the cities but life is way cheaper. For native and non-native speaker you can make 4000 to 5000 RMB a month with accommodation.
Regarding the visa, it's also very easy to get. You can either go to Hong Kong or you can apply through an authorized agency. You will be able to get 6 months to 1 year visa.
If you travel in Asia and you don't want to go back home, you know now, you have the possibility to stay and work in China for a little while. It will be a good opportunity to learn Chinese too. You might be surprised with the Chinese but hey, it's part of the trip, isn't it?
